Entrez ID 54254
GenBank Protein ID
GenBank Nucleotide ID
Protein Name Transcription factor GATA-4 (DNA-binding protein GATA-GT2) (GATA-binding factor 4)
Gene Name Gata4
Organism Rattus norvegicus
NCBI Taxa ID 10116
Functional DescriptionTranscriptional activator that binds to the consensus sequence 5'-AGATAG-3' and plays a key role in cardiac development (By similarity). In cooperation with TBX5, it binds to cardiac super-enhancers and promotes cardiomyocyte gene expression, while it downregulates endocardial and endothelial gene expression (By similarity). Acts as a transcriptional activator of ANF in cooperation with NKX2-5 (By similarity). Promotes cardiac myocyte enlargement (By similarity). Required during testicular development (By similarity). Involved in bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-mediated induction of cardiac-specific gene expression (PubMed:15329343). Binds to BMP response element (BMPRE) DNA sequences within cardiac activating regions (PubMed:15329343). May play a role in sphingolipid signaling by regulating the expression of sphingosine-1-phosphate degrading enzyme, spingosine-1-phosphate lyase (By similarity).

[Reference]: Together with GATA4 phosphorylation at Ser105 by ERK1/2, our findings show dual phosphorylation of GATA4 by the ERK-RSK cascade and suggest that MSK and RSK have distinct effects in PE-induced cardiac hypertrophic response.

[Reference]: Inhibition of RSK using the small molecule SL0101 abrogated GATA4 phosphorylation at Ser261, ultimately leading to a repression of fetal cardiac genes.?
